SARAH PALIN: What ever happened to the women rights movement?

So, if you haven’t heard, Sarah Palin is resigning her position as the governor of Alaska. Many presume (basically hardcore liberals or anybody who have ever seen Palin do an interview) this to be the happiest day in politics. I felt that way at first when I heard the awesome news. But then when I watched the video on YouTube of a news correspondent belittling Palin, I thought to myself WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WOMEN RIGHTS MOVEMENT! The correspondent that was talking about Palin was non-other than a woman.

I bring this up because I have noticed that NO ONE has stood up for Palin(McCain is really no help). Yes, Palin maybe isn’t the brightest bulb in the bunch, but she is still an opportunity to further the rights of women. I know that this is the 21st century, and I know that this is the year 2009 and women want to be treated equally as men but there is yet the fact, SHE IS A WOMAN. Where was Oprah, Hilary, Maya, or even Michelle when this fellow woman was being “raped” of her womanhood? Then she was criticized by her fellow republicans for her wardrobe budget during the 2008 presidential race. Where were the critics when Michelle was carrying a $5,000 hand bag? Palin has stated that one of her reasons for resigning is because “lawmakers has given her a hard time” but I think the truth is because her personal life, not political, has been mocked repeatedly. Even her parenting skills have been questioned. When someone makes a joke of your daughter being raped on national television, the jokes end there, bottom line.

It is Palin right to resign as governor, if Bush would had resigned as governor of Texas, maybe we wouldn’t be in a war. The woman correspondent that was bashing Palin was even hinting that Palin may have a mental disorder, furthermore going on and saying “Palin is not fit to work any job”(despite Alaska having a budget surplus). Now it may just be my intuition but isn’t that a little too hardcore? I thought that she (the correspondent) should have been just a little more sympathetic towards Palin since both are women.

I maybe am just being dramatic over this whole thing, maybe even wrong, but I really don’t think that I’m the only one noticing that Palin has been hit hard by fellow politicians and news correspondents. I mean I could talk about how the vice presidential debate was set up to make Palin look like an idiot but I’m not (Whoever heard of a vice presidential debate, and if there have been some, none was more criticized than Palin’s). And I bring up the whole women’s right movement because I just feel like that Palin (just like Hilary) was a chance to really further women rights but instead she was used as a tool to postpone it.
